Group workshops are usually held on Fridays, Saturdays or Sundays, and are offered on an ongoing basis at my Colorado Springs photography studio. The group workshop is $99 for a 5-hour class. This is a great class for beginners, where we cover the technical aspects of focusing, white balance, exposure, and getting a better understanding of all those buttons and knobs on your camera. Private one-on-one lessons are also available, and I charge $125 for two hours. We are able to cover much of what I cover in the group workshop, and can totally move at the pace that is best for you. Many people prefer the one-on-one class because I can tailor it to your specific interests. It was also fun seeing some of my photographs displayed at the convention. A couple of my baby photos were on display on a large rotating display at one entrance to the expo floor, while a couple more were hanging in the booth of a vendor from whom I’ve purchased backgrounds.

I did manage to spend some time as a tourist, too, riding the streetcars and wandering around the French Quarter. New Orleans is one crazy place. If I ever make it back there again I hope I’ll do it with a “real” camera the next time!

I will send you a little photography “quiz” to assess your skills, and we’ll start from there. Don’t worry if you have absolutely no photography knowledge or background at all. That’s the case for most of my students. For beginners, I typically cover focusing, getting good color with your white balance settings, the exposure triangle (aperture, shutter speed and ISO) and why you should care about it. My goal is to get you off of the “Auto”settings where your camera makes all the decisions, and instead have you use settings that put YOU in control.  We are always able to cover lots of ground in two hours, and you’ll leave feeling so much more confident in your ability to operate your camera. If you already have a good foundation, we could instead use the two-hour period to cover more advanced topics, including studio lighting, photography business topics, etc.
